WHO IS A COACH ?
Coaching is designed to provide clients with a greater capacity to produce results and a
greater confidence in their ability to do so. It is intended that clients do not leave coaching
with a perception that they need to rely on a coach in order to produce similar results in
the future.
Coaches are trained to listen, to observe and to customize their approach to individual
client needs. They seek to elicit solutions and strategies from the client; they believe the
client is naturally creative and resourceful. The coach's job is to provide support to
enhance the skills, resources, and creativity that the client already has.
COACHING CORE COMPETENCIES
The following eleven core coaching competencies were developed to support greater
understanding about the skills and approaches used within today's coaching profession as
defined by the ICF..
The core competencies are grouped into four clusters according to those that fit together
logically based on common ways of looking at the competencies in each group. They do
not represent any kind of priority in that they are all core or critical for any competent
coach to demonstrate.
